Angie K
I recently heard of Angie K when listening to NPR All Songs Considered’s “New Music Friday” podcast. It only took hearing an extremely short clip of “Laredo” to immediately switch over to Spotify to hear the rest of the song. The upbeat acoustic guitar rifts and the lyrics are just as captivating as her clear and powerful vocals. Angie K appeared on Season 10 of The Voice (2016) and turned three chairs (Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, and Pharrell), selecting Shelton as her coach. After further research, I found out that she has been featured by Rolling Stone as an “Artist You need to Know” and has won the 2016 San Diego Fair “Best Songwriter.” At age eleven, Angie K emigrated from El Salvador to the U.S. (Georgia) with her parents and four sisters. At age fifteen, Angie took the $100 guitar her mom had bought her and drove to Nashville to play at Bluebird Café. Angie now resides in Nashville, TN, and has toured with Jake Owen, Melissa Etheridge, Tanya Tucker, Trace Adkins, and more.
